Another Supposedly Authentic Photo Of A UFO & The Story Behind It

Why does the title say ‘another’? That’s because there are a plethora of authentic photos and video footage of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) that have been released from various sources over the years. That includes this recently released video footage whose authenticity was confirmed by the United States Navy. And here is a fascinating picture that was released by the Canadian military.

This latest picture and the focus of this article comes from a woman named Hannah McRoberts, who was 25 at the time the photograph was taken in October of 1981 on the east coast of Vancouver Island. She was on vacation with her family and during her time there she took a number of pictures with her camera, a 35 mm Mamiya with a 50-55 mm lens, 125 speed, and ASA 100 film.

The interesting fact about this particular photo is that neither she nor her family had noticed the object until after the film had been developed. Hannah and her family had no interest in the UFO phenomenon at all, and were apparently quite embarrassed and reluctant to share the photo publicly.

Scientific Analysis Of The Photo

The photograph shows an object above a mountain peak and to the right of a plume of clouds. After examinations of the photo by many people, primarily UFO enthusiasts, the photo was eventually delivered to Richard F. Haines, who at the time was the Editor of the Journal of Scientific Exploration.

Haines concluded that Hannah had unknowingly captured a genuine unknown airborne object that was not the result of emulsion deformity of an optical illusion sparked by the camera’s inner mechanisms. According to his specific study published in the Journal of Scientific Exploration,

Analyses of the original negative included micro-densitometry, computer enhancements, and other measurements intent upon showing a support thread, atmospheric disturbance, or other evidences of a hoax. These analyses suggest that the disc was a three dimensional object located at a distance of at least 30 feet from the camera; the object’s surface albedo was diffuse and of lower luminance than sunlit cloud. Extensive interviews with the photographer (who never saw the aerial object), her husband and daughter and site survey tended to support the entire narrative account. The identity of the disc object remains unidentified.

In summary, this investigation has shown that a mature adult with high credibility and little or no interest in UFO phenomena obtained a single, colored, sharp imaged photograph of an unidentified aerial disc-like object. Her subsequent reactions to seeing the disc’s image on her photograph produced surprise and dismay as well as the normal array of “answer-seeking” behavior. She has not capitalized on having such a photo and still acts somewhat embarrassed at having taken it without seeing the disc. The disc’s identity has not been identified to date.

The study goes into great detail, and describes what methods were used to determine the authenticity of the photograph. It’s quite an interesting read, and the study also makes it a point to emphasize that despite common belief, there are many photographs of such objects–and this is in 1987.

Abundance Of Evidence

Today, such revelations shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. As mentioned earlier, the Navy has recently released video footage of such objects. There have been countless documents that have been released for public viewing around the world describing UFO encounters, particularly encounters of unknown objects being engaged in various ways by military pilots. Whether or not this particular photo is authentic and real, something that General Nathan Twining once said is compelling:

“The phenomenon is something real and not visionary or fictitious. The reported operating characteristics such as extreme rates of climb, maneuverability (particularly in roll), and motion which must be considered evasive when sighted or contacted by friendly air-craft and radar, lend belief to the possibility that some of the objects are controlled either manually, automatically, or remotely.” (source)

The Takeaway

Having worked in this field for more than a decade, it’s been very interesting to see the evolution of thought when it comes to the topic of UFOs. More than a decade ago, the subject was thrown into the ‘conspiracy theory’ bucket. Today, it’s no longer taboo to talk about the phenomenon and, furthermore, the existence of UFOs is no longer in question.

This is a topic, as I’ve said on countless occasions, that really leaves no aspect of humanity untouched. It opens a pandora’s box, and by accepting this reality we are forced to open our minds to new concepts of reality that once did not fit within ordinary perception. It’s a very mind-opening, consciousness-expanding subject that has the power to transform our way of thinking and what we think we know about science, history, technology, spirituality, and much more.

Obviously, there are a lot of ‘feelings’ that come up in the collective with regards to this subject, but as the years pass the collective mind seems to be opening up more and more, willing to abandon, at least for a brief moment, long-held belief systems about the nature of reality. This is a trend we’ve seen throughout human history, and it’s something that’s only going to continue and accelerate.
